Chaetarthria cf. seminulum
You might call this minute 1.5 mm beetle a "dweller on the threshold", for it
lives right along the water's edge, on the bank and often sits huddled in the mud. It
can crawl around under water, but then constantly tries to climb out again. It cannot swim,
so it thrashes helplessly with its short legs in search of something to hold on to, as in
the photos above. Note the strongly bent posture.
In the photo on the left, the beetle has something to hold on to and climbs up to the
surface.
