Hyphydrus ovatus

This bulgy little beetle (ovatus = egglike) can be found in waters of all kind. This
specimen is a female, I know because she did lay about 40 eggs on the front glass of my aquarium.
Moreover, the male has more shiny elytra. In the eggs you could see the larva shimmer through the
eggshell with some orange coloured parts after a few days. For her offspring click at the Gallery picture of the larva on the former page. Both beetle and larva feed on
all kinds of water-fleas and ostracods. The beetle holds an air supply in a small bubble at the
back.
