Hydrometra stagnorum larva
Water-measurer, young larva
Carefully this young Water-measurer larva cleans its stabbing beak. The silvery surface he stands
on is a decaying Water Lilly leaf. Note the relative long antenna, the curved up abdomen, the red
eyes and the head which is still short. This tiny bug measures about 1.7 millimeters. Below are two
more pictures of this larva with a group of aphids. On the leaf is a shallow layer of
water.
